The Importance of us.

In digital design class on the twenty-ninth, we spent around half of our class discussing the events that occurred over the weekend. These event being the Kroger shooting in Louisville, the Synagogue shooting in Pittsburg, and the multiple pipe bombs delivered around the country.
As a class, we all gathered with the other half of the J&C magnet in Mr. Miller's room and had a very frank and open discussion about how we felt.
I was really happy that as a group, we all came together to talk about the tragic events over the weekend. I like the idea that as a magnet, we can come together when huge events occur and feel safe to share how we feel, and what to do.
We talked about what fueled these events, and things like, what actions have been taken by our government in recent times.
Something that really stuck with me was what Miss Palmer said about our generation. She talked about how much change we as a group have the potential to bring, and the power that we have. She also displayed to us her disgust for adults that blame us for things that their generation created. But I found it so beautiful that all the while during this talk to us, she seemed pretty emotional about the subject. I felt that in that moment, that I really fit in this magnet.
I find it so important that we as a generation use our power and voice to enact the change we want and wish to see in the world. I obviously then find it so incredibly awesome that our teachers really care and appreciate what we think and have to say. By giving us a platform in their classrooms to share how we feel, I really believe that it makes our class so much more interesting and very much more appealing and informative.

Biases and Journalism.

For this blog post, I decided to take it back to the very beginning of school. To our discussion of what makes a good journalist. When we discussed what makes a good journalist and good journalism, the class was asked to share out what we believed the aspects of good journalism to be. Among the many standards, the quality of unbiased  was presented. This aspect stuck with me and made me think deeper about what it entails from a journalistic point of view. Of course it makes since. We as people appreciate our new and media to be completely objective. We want the facts with one hundred percent certainty that they haven't been given to us with a kind of filter on them. But i think it's important to realize just how biased we as humans are. No matter if we'd like to admit it or not, everyone has biases. Even journalists. Which means that a lot of the things that you'll find out in the media is definitely biased. Whether it's that of the writer or the company overlook...

It May be Candy Corn, but is it Relevant?

In a story ran on Wave3's website entitled, "On eve of Halloween, it's National Candy Corn Day", the station posted the story, originally done by CNN. Now while I do agree that Candy Corn seems to be a surprisingly heated subject for people to discuss, I find it completely ridiculous to feel it necessary to make a story out of it. Now I do understand, Wave3 did not have anything to do with the writing of the story. But similar to what we discussed in class, a news media outlet doesn't have  to share anything and everything. Wave3, didn't at all have to share this pointless story. This story by no means follows the yardsticks of journalism. In fact, it completely goes against the very guidelines of Newsworthiness  and Explanation. In terms of this story being locally relevant, there's not much to say. This will have no large effect on anyone, nor will it have any lasting effect on anyone. This proved that is directly violates to yardstick of Newsworthine...

My Thoughts on Conglomeration

In Mr. Miller's class, we discussed conglomeration and the pro's and con's of it. At first, I honestly hadn't thought that deeply into giant corporations such as The Walt Disney Company or AT&T. But because of our discussion in class, its helped me realize more about the affect of conglomerates. What I had thought was obvious before class was that these huge corporations has a massive impact on what we as a society think, believe, and hold true. But what I thought more about after the class is what information these conglomerates could be feeding us. When these big companies own dozens or even hundreds of smaller companies, they have the ability and the means to display their own message in whatever way possible. These messages could be beneficial to the public, or completely against the people's best interests. But no matter the content of these messages, they have the full potential to control the public's views and opinions. Because of this I see congl...
